I purchased this impressive mask myself in Venice, Italy,in the late 1980s.
Like new condition.(only hung on the wall)
Medico della peste was the physician of the time.
Potions, herbs and other remedies were kept in the long beak-like projection to protect
from
foul odors involved in treating the sick and dying,
and also to add some protection from contracting diseases.
I used these masks as an interesting wall grouping.
The thread-like hanger runs threw the eyes.
