Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful antique 1912 St Mark's Campanile commemorative reconstruction medal! This beautiful piece is finely crafted and detailed, with low relief depictions of the St Mark's Campanile bell tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy on one side, and the Loggetta del Sansovino, a small, richly decorated building at the base of the bell tower in Saint Mark’s Square. The medal was made to celebrate the re-building of these historical monuments which were destroyed when the tower collapsed. The medal was given out as a souvenir during the inauguration ceremony on 25 April 1912, on the occasion of Saint Mark's feast day, exactly 1000 years after the foundations of the original building had allegedly been laid. Medal presents well and is in very good antique condition, with minor wear, tarnish/patina commensurate with age. This medal will make a fine addition to any Venetian souvenir collection...Fresh to the market!
