  • Condition: Excellent condition for its antiquity. There is one tear on the corner - see the last photo. The photos are from the auction. I have gently cleaned (damp cloth) with no damage the bed so some of the debris and dust is gone.

    Description

    Exceptionally RARE Antique Baby Bed
    Probably from Ivory Coast - Perhaps Baule?
    Used as a bassinette when Mom was working - very rare item as moms preferred to carry their babies.
    Original Museum Quality- Some Provenance Available.
    Large 6 Month old Baby Size = 23 inches long and 12 inches deep!
    Excellent ANTIQUE condition - have no idea of age.  It is handmade and there are lots of imperfections from the goat skin that was hardened purposefully. There was lots of dust and dirt in the bed. I have used a gentle cloth dampened with only water to remove some of the dust and dirt in those little cavities. A restorer in antiquities should do any further cleaning!
    There is a 1 by 2" hole - see the last photo.
    Probably from the Ivory Coast.
    Provenance can be provided - it, already vintage, was presented to E---- H------, a state department employee when he served in Africa around 1950.
    Features goat skin binding strips wrapped and twisted around goat skin panels. The binding strips are attached tightly to literal sticks that have been bent to create a frame. (I am not an expert but pretty sure this is goat skin.)
