    Description

    This wonderful octagonal coffin shaped18th c. Dutch engraved brass tobacco box is engraved on all its facets.  The top show what might be domestic or educational scenes along with Dutch script that I imagine explain the scenes.  It also has a compass rose star and symmetrical acanthus leaf engraving.  The reverse of the box has another domestic scene along with what appears to be a courtier with a king in his throne.  It is also decorated with a compass rose star and acanthus leaves. The sides also have instructive scenes and script.  The box is a bit over 6" long x 2.25" deep x 1 1/4" thick.  It is in excellent condition (the hinge looks like it might have been replaced some time in the 19th c.
